How Long Does Temporary Email Last?

Know the expiry time before using a temporary address. When the inbox expires, its messages are removed and future mail to that address is rejected.

Typical lifetimes

Services use different policies. Some focus on a short verification window, while others keep an inbox available for hours. Some tie access to a browser session. Always check the particular service rather than assuming all temporary addresses behave alike.

PoofMail starts an inbox with one hour. While it is active, Add 1 hour resets the remaining time to one hour. You can do this up to three times. It does not add an extra hour on top of whatever time remains, and an expired inbox cannot be revived.

Why there is a time limit

Deleting old inboxes limits storage and keeps the service focused on brief interactions. It also reduces the amount of old mail retained by the provider. An inbox's temporary nature is part of its purpose rather than a promise of permanent storage.

Avoiding expiry during a task

Keep the inbox page open while waiting for a message and watch its countdown. If you need more time, extend it before it expires and while extensions remain. Check the recipient address for mistakes if mail is delayed. A sending service may also take time to deliver or may reject disposable addresses.

Refreshing or reopening PoofMail in the same browser normally restores an active inbox using local storage. Clearing browser data removes that local access. It does not cancel the server's expiry schedule or guarantee immediate server deletion; use Delete inbox if you want to request deletion now.

Do not save a temporary address for a future task. Choose a permanent mailbox or alias whenever access must last longer than the displayed deadline.
