Can Temporary Email Be Traced to You?

A random address can separate a one-time interaction from your permanent email, but it should not be mistaken for complete anonymity.

What the address itself shows

PoofMail generates an address without asking you to register a name, phone number, or personal mailbox. The random address alone does not disclose your main email address. That is useful when you want a website to have a temporary contact point instead of your usual one.

Other information can still identify you

Technical records: a provider may keep IP addresses, access times, and related operational logs. These records can sometimes be associated with other information. PoofMail describes its limited operational logging in the Privacy Policy.

Message contents: if you put your full name, phone number, or address into a registration form, the resulting email may contain those details. A random recipient address does not remove information from the message itself.

Related activity: account names, cookies, device information, payment details, and behavior on the website you register with may connect the interaction to you independently of the email address.

Realistic privacy expectations

Temporary email helps reduce unnecessary disclosure of a permanent email address. It does not conceal every network trace or replace a broader privacy strategy. It is not a suitable tool for assuming that sensitive or high-risk activity cannot be linked to you.

Choosing what to share

Keep one-time registrations low-stakes, review the website's data requirements, and avoid including personal information you do not need to provide. Think about the complete interaction rather than only the name of the inbox.
