Risks and Limitations of Disposable Email
Disposable email solves a specific problem: receiving short-lived messages without repeatedly sharing your main address. Its limits matter just as much as its convenience.
Access depends on the provider
Some services expose inboxes to anyone who knows the address. PoofMail requires the inbox session token stored in your browser. Knowing an address alone does not open it, but sharing the token or browser session can expose the messages. Neither model is a reason to send confidential information to a disposable address.
There is no guaranteed recovery
When an inbox expires, its contents are removed. There is no forgotten-password process for recovering an expired PoofMail address. If you register an important account with it, future password-reset messages may be inaccessible.
It is unsuitable for ongoing conversations
PoofMail receives mail only. You cannot reply, forward messages as the temporary address, or maintain a support conversation from it. Use a permanent mailbox when two-way communication matters.
Some websites will reject it
Websites may block disposable domains to prevent abuse or require lasting contact details. Respect those rules. A different address does not solve the longer-term problem of needing account recovery or ongoing notices.
It is not complete account security
Temporary email does not replace unique passwords, multi-factor authentication, or careful handling of links and files. It does not guarantee anonymity or end-to-end encryption either.
Using the tool for its intended purpose
Choose disposable email for a permitted, low-stakes verification, download, or test. Choose permanent email or an alias when the account, messages, or future access matter. Knowing the boundary helps prevent a convenient shortcut from becoming a loss of access later.
